Francisco "Kenkoy" Harabas
Francisco "Kenkoy" Harabas is a Philippine comics character created by illlustrator Tony Velasquez with writer Romualdo Ramos in 1929. Velasquez continued the strip "Album ng Kabalbalan ni Kenkoy" for decades after Ramos' death in 1932. Kenkoy is the Philippine's first komiks strip and the 1st pop icon as the character was very popular to komiks readers from 1929 to the 1960s. Kenkoy was seminal to Philippine "komiks" and thus Tony Velasquez is regarded as the founding father of the Philippine komiks industry. The term "kenkoy" has entered the Filipino language to mean a joker, jester, or a hilarious person.
