You Can Now Showcase Your NFTs on Instagram and Facebook

Earlier this year, Meta started testing NFT functionality on Instagram for select U.S.-based creators and collectors. Some features included Connecting a Digital Wallet, Sharing Digital Collectibles, and Automatic Tagging of both creator and collector (subject to privacy settings). Later in August, they started an international roll-out expanding the list to 100 countries from Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and the Americas. They also increase the number of third-party wallets they support, including Coinbase Wallet and Dapper. Previous wallets supported by the platform are Rainbow, Metamask, and Trust Wallet. Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow made up the list of Blockchains supported during this period.

Cross-Posting on Both Platforms

By the tail-end of August, the company announced NFT integration on Facebook and allowed cross-posting functions for both platforms for a limited number of accounts. With this update, users only needed to connect their wallet once to either app, granting them sharing capabilities on both. A month later, Meta announced that this function is now available for all Facebook and Instagram users in the U.S. Additionally, everyone in the 100 countries that had access to digital collectibles on Instagram can now enjoy the feature.

Expanding Support

As part of their push to support NFTs, Meta updated the type of digital collectibles that collectors can showcase on their Instagram profiles to include video NFTs. Meta announced during the company’s creator week. The company also included the Solana Blockchain and Phantom Wallet to their list of supported Blockchain and wallets and added OpenSea metadata for “select collections”. On top of that, they are now allowing a “small group” of creators in the U.S. to make and sell digital collectibles directly on Instagram. These creators now have access to an end-to-end toolkit that they can use to create, showcase and sell their digital collectibles on and off Instagram. They eventually plan to expand this feature to more countries soon.

Connecting Your Wallet

If you’re unsure if the feature is available in your country, you can check if the “Digital Collectible” option can be found, as seen in the screenshot below. As mentioned above, you only need to connect your wallet to either of the apps to share your NFT.

On the Profile Settings page, click on the Digital Collectibles menu.

Once there, a notification screen will appear that will take you through the next steps of connecting your wallet.

Choose the wallet you want to connect to your account. You can connect additional wallets using the “Add Wallet” button.

How to Showcase your NFT on Instagram and Facebook

Instagram:

Users can now view their NFTs and share them as posts. Sharing is similar to any other post on the app. You need to tap the plus sign at the top of the screen and then select "Post." Above your phone's library, a unique verified checkmark will show up, allowing you to choose any NFT in your wallet. You can add a description before sharing the selected NFT to your feed. You will be identified as the owner or creator of your digital collectible when you share it. Users may find your digital collectible on the platform's Explore page, in-feed, and on the main grid.

Facebook:

Once you've connected your wallet, the next step is to decide which digital collectible you want to display on your feed. Once you've made your selection, you can click "Share to feed," where you'll be given the option of making the in-feed post public or to only a select group of your friends. Before posting, you'll be asked to complete your post with more text, images, or other information. After posting, the digital collectible will show up with the hexagonal "Digital Collectibles" emblem on your profile and main feed.

As of writing, Meta has said that no fees will be associated with posting or sharing your digital collectible on Instagram or Facebook. With this in mind, it’s high time to show your collectible on your profile. If you’re just starting out and unsure what to collect, look no further.
